Issues
Protecting Your Wallet
Florida is ranked #1 in the nation for fiscal health. As a State Representative, Josie Tomkow has voted on billions in tax cuts aimed to help working Floridians put more money back in their pockets – including permanent sales tax holiday’s for back-to-school items, disaster preparedness items, state park admissions, life jackets, outdoor equipment and more.
In addition, Josie voted to remove sales tax on diapers and baby clothes and $450 million In toll relief as well as $502 million in tax, fee and assessment exemptions for homeowner’s insurance policies.
Reforming our Insurance Laws to Bring Relief
Property and car insurance rates must be driven down to help Florida more affordable for working families and small businesses. The State took action two years ago and Florida’s insurance market is now bringing in dozens of new insurance companies and that is driving prices downward.
33 property insurance companies have asked for rate decreases and the top five auto insurers are averaging over a 6% rate reduction. Additionally, we’ve seen a 25% reduction in litigation that is helping save Floridians money on their insurance policies. Now we must continue to do more to bolster the reinsurance market that will help drive down rates at a quicker pace.
Securing Florida Communities and Supporting Law Enforcement
Florida has taken a leading role in enforcing our laws on the books and Josie is supported by EVERY SHERIFF IN TAMPA BAY – Sheriff Chad Chronister, Sheriff Grady Judd, Sheriff Chris Nocco, and Sheriff Bob Gualtieri.
Law enforcement supports Josie because she has always support their mission of keeping us safe, including working with the federal government to ensure that criminal illegal aliens are deported to their country of origin.
Combatting Flooding and Make Hillsborough More Resilient
Every neighborhood in Hillsborough County has been affected by hurricanes and the flooding that comes from it. Josie led the effort to build a more resilient Hillsborough County that invests directly into flood mitigation infrastructure that helps protect neighborhoods during storms and hardens infrastructure to keep us all safe.
This new program will help cut red tape across local lines, invest in Florida-based research that will help inform our decisions, and will prioritize the most critical projects today.
Teaching our Children Necessary Skills
Josie Tomkow helped create a NEW financial literacy course for high school students to make sure they’re prepare for the workforce and understand the importance of budgeting, saving, and investing. The course requires students to learn about different types of bank accounts, credit scores, taxes, managing debt, investment vehicles and credit card management.
Expanded Care for New Moms
Josie believes that mothers need more care after child birth – that’s why she fought to extend healthcare coverage will allow mothers to address critical needs that can arise after childbirth, including chronic conditions and postpartum depression. Mothers can now avail themselves of Medicaid benefits including primary, specialty, mental health, dental and prescription drug services.
